Marine

Powering the Industry Bow to Stern

Commercial vessels face constant pressure — from evolving environmental requirements to demanding duty cycles and the need to keep critical equipment running reliably. Whether you’re building new ships or maintaining an existing fleet, our high-performance products and solutions can help improve uptime, maximize efficiency and extend equipment life across all marine systems.

Over the last decade, we’ve expanded our portfolio and problem-solving capabilities to include Lagersmit®, Lovejoy®, Philadelphia Gear®, PT Tech® and Torsion Control Products — giving you a broader range of solutions for propulsion and above-deck equipment. With marine approvals that include design assessment, manufacturing assessment and type approvals, we can serve as a single source for a wide range of technical solutions.

Engineered Marine Solutions that Keep Industry Moving

Workboats: Above and Below Deck

From propulsion to deck operations, marine systems demand components that stand up to corrosion, shock loads and continuous duty. We support critical vessel mechanical systems with Timken® marine bearings and a comprehensive portfolio of power transmission, lubrication and sealing solutions designed for lakes, rivers and the high seas.

Across the vessel, you’ll find our clutches, brakes and torque limiters; engineered bearings; couplings; automated lubrication systems; and specialty sealing solutions for stern tubes, thrusters and bulkheads — helping reduce unplanned downtime and keep equipment performing reliably.

Z-Drive Azimuth Thrusters: Protecting uptime in high-demand maneuvering systems

Azimuth thrusters performance comes down to how the drivetrain, bearings, lubrication and sealing work together under shock loads, misalignment risk and constant exposure to the marine environment. For operators and builders, that means reliability is won (or lost) in the details.

We bring system-level support to Z-drive installations with solutions that address the most common pressure points: torque management and driveline protection, bearing performance, lubrication reliability, and specialty thruster and stern tube sealing—plus belts and chain for adjacent power transmission.

The results? Longer component life. Better maintenance cost control. And more uptime across critical propulsion and maneuvering systems.

Towing Winches: Controlling load, heat and wear under continuous duty

Towing winches don’t get easy shifts. They cycle through high tension, variable loads and frequent starts and stops—where heat, shock loads and inconsistent lubrication can accelerate wear. In these conditions, control and protection matter as much as pulling power.

We support towing winch systems with solutions designed for demanding duty: couplings for reliable torque transfer; clutches, brakes and torque limiters to help manage engagement, stopping and overload events; engineered bearings for efficient motion; and automated lubrication systems to help maintain consistent performance over time.

Ship-to-Shore Cranes: Increasing Port Productivity and Throughput

Ship-to-shore cranes are a key player in terminal productivity. Unlike other assets, their capacity cannot be easily substituted. If these cranes fail or are insufficient, cargo flow stops — making them one of the most critical applications in our global supply chains.

We support ship to shore cranes by supplying critical engineered components, application engineering expertise, and lifecycle services that help crane OEMs, ports, and terminal operators achieve high reliability, long service life, and reduced downtime in harsh port environments.

Our broad portfolio of engineered bearings, gear drives, couplings, brakes, torque management and sealing and lubrication systems allow us to fully serve crane developers — and the shipping industry.

Container Loaders: Enabling port productivity and cargo flow

Container loaders are essential material-handling systems that enable ports and terminals to move cargo efficiently between ships, storage areas, and land‑based transportation. They play a direct role in maintaining port throughput, reducing vessel turnaround time, and supporting the global flow of goods through marine supply chains.

Container loaders rely on multiple critical subsystems—hoisting, travel, rotation, and material handling—each exposed to heavy loads, shock and continuous duty.

We supports these systems with a comprehensive range of engineered bearings, gear drives, couplings, clutches, brakes, seals, and automated lubrication solutions, allowing OEMs to source multiple critical components from a single, trusted partner.

Lagersmit® Sealing Solutions: Performance where it matters most

Marine sealing is critical to both reliability and environmental compliance. When sealing performance degrades, the impact can be immediate — more maintenance, higher downtime risk and added compliance scrutiny.

In 2023, we strengthened our ability to address these challenges through the acquisition of Lagersmit, a Netherlands-based provider of specialty sealing solutions for commercial and industrial workboats. The Lagersmit Supreme® portfolio supports applications including stern tubes, thrusters, bulkheads, fin stabilizers, rudderstocks and gearboxes. Supreme Ventus® and Supreme Athmos® are self-regulating sealing solutions that comply with Vessel General Permit (VGP)/VIDA regulations to help support reliable operation.
