Safety Achievements

Timken’s worldwide health and safety standards require consistent, high-level performance at all of our facilities, regardless of location. In 2011, we made significant ergonomic improvements throughout our global operations, achieving a 25 percent reduction in ergonomic risks versus the prior year.  Here are a few examples reflecting our achievements in this area.

World-Class Ergonomic Improvements

In 2011, our Manchester, Conn., plant received national recognition as the winner of the annual Humantech Find It/Fix It Challenge, which recognizes companies for making ergonomic improvements that result in increased productivity, improved worker morale, and fewer workplace injuries and illnesses. Timken also received finalist recognition for entries from our Gambrinus Steel  Plant in Canton, Ohio, and Shiloh Plant in Rutherfordton, N.C.   Each of these winning best practices demonstrate how Timken associates are working together to make everyday tasks easier and safer.

Encouraging Ergonomic Excellence

The Timken Ergo Cup Challenge is just one way we encourage and promote the importance of ergonomics in the workplace. The award recognizes employee-led ergonomic teams for developing and implementing unique solutions that:

  • Significantly reduce or eliminate ergonomic risk;
  • Are simple and straightforward;
  • Are proven to be effective through study and experimentation; and
  • Provide an attractive return on investment.

Winners of the award go on to represent Timken at an international ergonomics conference, competing with teams from other world-class manufacturing companies.
