The roots of our social responsibility extend back more than a century to founder Henry Timken.  He foresaw that solving the problem of friction in moving objects “fundamentally would achieve something of real value to the world,” leading to the patent of the Timken® tapered roller bearing.

By design, our power-dense bearings reduce energy consumption, making significant contributions to further efficiency in industry and transportation.  In our own operations, Timken annually transforms the equivalent of more than a million junk cars into some of the cleanest, strongest steel on Earth.  This steel then strengthens our customers’ machinery and forms the basis for our own friction management and power transmission products, which allow our world to move faster, safer and more energy efficiently.

However, doing the right thing, with a long-term view of our actions, extends well beyond creating value for our customers and shareholders.  Our core values and rich tradition of community support also are essential elements of the Timken brand. Our familiar refrain, “I AM Where You Turn,” speaks to the personal and shared commitment of 20,000 Timken people working together to improve the communities where we live, work and do business.  Offering scholarships, providing financial support, mentoring, and giving their time and talent are but a sample of the innumerable ways that the Timken team helps make the world a better place.
