Timken is the global leader in bearing reconditioning for the rail industry, bringing new life to used bearings by replacing worn and damaged parts. We’ve also extended our repair capabilities beyond bearings to include reconditioning and overhaul services for related rail products and systems.
Rail Bearing Reconditioning
Timken’s rail bearing reconditioning programs are easily integrated with your existing maintenance regimes. Our state-of-the-art tooling can be custom-designed for your needs using our vast service engineering experience and knowledge of global rail operations.
All of our rail reconditioning facilities worldwide are ISO-certified, and our facilities supplying North American customers are approved by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and certified under the AAR M-1003 Quality Assurance Program.
- Bearings are cleaned, inspected and fitted with new parts, if needed.
- Our expert reconditioning associates requalify and reassemble refurbished bearings.
- All bearings are completely inspected to meet appropriate reconditioning specifications.
On-site Vehicle Maintenance
Timken on-site vehicle maintenance services are available through Timken’s Mobile Reconditioning Unit, a self-contained repair facility that travels to customer sites upon request. These units are currently available in South Africa. Bearing reconditioning can be performed by Timken associates or your in-house maintenance team using our fully outfitted maintenance van.
- On-site vehicle maintenance offers convenience and saves time for minor repairs – no need to disassemble parts and ship them to a Timken facility.
Traction Motor Suspension Unit (MSU) Reconditioning
More than 28,000 motor suspension units are operating successfully on Timken tapered roller bearings in Europe and South Africa. We supply not only the suspension bearings but also the MSU tube (with labyrinth seal) assemblies. Benefits include higher reliability, reduced radial clearance, low starting torque, reduced maintenance costs (since the MSU is a self-contained unit) and grease lubrication (no oil levels to maintain).
