Drill and Production String

Timken forging bars, seamless tubes and other products are widely used by manufacturers that support the oil and gas industry.

Drill Bit
Deeper wells and harsh drilling environments put much higher demands on the toughness and longevity of drill bits. Clean steel practices are used to produce high-nickel grades that meet the requirements of wear-resistance and toughness.

Timken® steels have been instrumental in increasing bit life and have helped to set many drilling depth records.

Drill Collar
Timken alloy steel bars, as-rolled or quench-and-tempered, are the preferred choice of drill collar manufacturers due to consistent chemistries and good surface quality.  Sizes range from 3" to 11", in full drill collar lengths.

Heavy Wall Drill Pipe
Strong but flexible, Timken seamless mechanical heavy wall tubing is produced to provide the strength necessary for the transition zone between pipe and drill collars.

Mud Motor
As directional drilling continues to increase and wells get deeper, the yield and impact strengths of the stator tubes are also increasing.  Timken developed Impact™ steels to meet those needs.  Seamless mechanical tubing produced from Impact steels is now the benchmark for these demanding applications.

Tool Joint
Tool joints connect lengths of pipe or heavy wall drill pipe. They require strength, weldability and wear resistance.  Timken steel tubing and bars provide tight chemistry control and consistent response to heat treating.

Christmas Tree / Wellhead
Bars up to 15" round are used to forge wellhead components such as valves and valve bodies, which are used to prevent blowouts and direct the flow of oil or gas from the well.
