President, Steel Group
Salvatore J. Miraglia, Jr. is president of the Steel Group at The Timken Company and an officer of the company.
Since his appointment in August 2005, Miraglia has led the Steel Group during both a prolonged period of record-setting production, shipments and profitability as well as a more recent restructuring to align with changing market conditions.
After the restructuring was completed in early 2009, the Group is focused on customers and markets rather than products. Three front-end business units respond to customer needs in specific market sectors. The industrial unit serves customers primarily in the power transmission, bearings, construction equipment, industrial machinery, wind energy and distribution markets. The mobile on-highway unit serves manufacturers of passenger cars, and light, medium and heavy trucks. The oil and gas unit provides products primarily for well drilling and completion.
A member of the American Society of Professional Engineers, the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers and the American Society for Metals, Miraglia also serves on the president’s council of the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI. He is a member of the Ohio Aerospace Institute Board of Trustees and was appointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending in 2009.
Miraglia holds a bachelor’s degree in metallurgy and material science from Lehigh University and a master’s degree in metallurgy and material science from Case Western Reserve University. He also has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.
