The unique operating conditions of pulp and paper mills subject bearings to high stresses and other potentially damaging conditions. To address these concerns, Timken developed a wide range of spherical bearing design modifications that solve common problems in the paper industry, such as C08 triple-ring bearings and more.
For example, Timken’s W906A modification was developed for the large bore paper machine bearing and engineered to solve the long-time problem of fractured inner rings and rollers. Commonly used in the press, suction and calendar rolls, the case-hardened W906A is engineered to manage the high tensile stresses in these applications. The advanced metallurgy of this modification minimizes unplanned downtime and improves overall productivity.
W906A Design Features/Benefits:
- Case-hardening components help prevent costly fractures and related damage, and better tolerate contamination
- Maximized capacity extends bearing service life in normal operating conditions and permits greater roll length and diameter for some of the highest load capacities
- Reduced radial runout results in superior precision
- Improved runout reduces vibration and contributes to greater caliper control
