Aluminum and steel mill bearings account for the greatest percentage of bearing repair orders.
Corrosion/etching, typically caused by moisture or water contamination, is one of the most common causes for repair. The mill’s process water—while important to keeping the operation and materials cool–is this water contamination’s root source. This contamination leads to rust attacking the bearing component surfaces.
Debris denting is another form of bearing damage that affects the metals industry. Localized surface depressions are caused by debris or foreign materials that travel within the lubricant (in this case, scale separates from the steel itself and wash away with the process water) and dent internal surfaces.
