EngineThe Timken Company is engaged in developing systemic solutions that go beyond material selection or design to include forming and finishing process optimization for engine components.

Crankshafts
Timken is the largest supplier of crankshaft steels to forging customers in North America. Timken's material science and technology advancements have created a family of high strength, low alloy steels, Timken MicroTec® steel grades.  These grades create cost savings by eliminating post-forged heat treatment, while still delivering the needed strength, ductility and fatigue characteristics specified by the customer.

Material machinability is another essential attribute of automotive engineered steels. In response to customer requirements, Timken manufactures non-leaded, enhanced-machining grades.  These steels machine more easily, with longer tool life. Faster machining with fewer tooling changes creates significant savings for automotive component manufacturers.

Fuel Injector Bodies
Fuel distribution designs have evolved from mechanical carburetors to fuel injection systems – mini pressure reactors that see cyclical loading in excess of 25,000 psi.  This demanding environment requires ultra-clean steel to perform reliably. Timken's high quality steel routinely meets this requirement.

Timken leads the industry in clean steelmaking practices, creating consistent performance in these demanding applications. Customers have the flexibility to select not just the grade but the quality level required for their application.
