Wind Energy

Timken's material knowledge, processing capabilities and large cast-size cross section make us the ideal choice to provide the right steel for the highly loaded components found in wind energy applications.

Timken melt practices result in clean air-melt steel capable of meeting the tight specifications defined in the standard AMS 2304. The cleanness of Timken steel decreases the inclusion content, resulting in increased fatigue life that can extend the life of wind energy components.

Timken bottom poured ingots allow us to supply the large cross sections desired by ring rollers and forgers.  Our ingot size also allows us to supply large-diameter direct-rolled bar that meets the reduction ratios and soundness needs of our machined bar customers.

As wind energy equipment continues to grow in size and power generation capacity, Timken® steel continues to keep pace with good chemistry control, cleanness and reliable section soundness.  Timken is ready to meet needs of the industry with product supplied in long lengths or formed into precision steel components.

Common wind energy applications include:

  • Bearings
  • Gears
  • Pins
  • Shafts
