Timken completed more than 440 environmental, health and safety (EH&S) audits worldwide by the end of 2006. Following each audit, a plant was issued an action plan, which included assigning responsibilities and completion deadlines for a list of corrective measures.
"The ability to carry out sustainable corrective actions is the key to the plants' EH&S effectiveness," said Dominic Nardis, manager of EH&S compliance auditing. "That's why each plant must perform an annual self-assessment that reinforces the audit program. This ensures the plant is following not only the local, state and country requirements, but also Timken's EH&S policies."
In addition to auditing established Timken facilities, the EH&S team assesses Timken acquisitions. Each assessment includes a detailed list of environmental issues, liabilities, remediation plans and associated costs.
