Timken Achieves Lowest Lost-Time Injury Frequency Rate
President and CEO Jim Griffith called on associates in 2007 to strengthen Timken’s safety performance. Timken associates responded by making history: Timken achieved its lowest ever lost-time injury frequency rate, a safety performance measure used worldwide in manufacturing.
In 2007 Timken had only 0.7 lost-time injuries per 200,000 hours worked – a 30 percent reduction from 2006. In addition, 22 Timken plants worked an entire year without a single lost-time injury, including facilities in Bucyrus, OH; Canton, OH; Canton, GA; Cairo, GA; Carlyle, IL; Clinton, SC; Coventry, UK; Dahlonega, GA; Greenville, SC; Los Alamitos, CA; Lenexa, KS; Lincolnton, NC; Mascot, TN; Rutherfordton, NC; New Philadelphia, OH; Ogden, UT; Rutherfordton, NC.; St. Clair, OH; Tryon Peak, NC; Tucson, AZ; Walhalla, SC and Wolverhampton, UK.
“We have driven safety performance improvements throughout the company and achieved a 65 percent reduction in lost time injuries over the last four years,” said Ken Kushner, manager of health and safety. “Our goal is zero lost-time injuries, and we will not stop until we meet this goal in all of our operations around the world.”
