Timken manufactures both parallel axis and spiral bevel gears for use in aerospace applications. We manufacture gears up to Class 15 AGMA tolerances. Our gear offering includes:
- Spiral bevels
- Helicals
- Spurs
- Splines (straight and crowned)
- Curvics
Timken utilizes only the highest quality materials for its gears, including carburizing 9310 and Pyrowear X-53, and nitriding steel. In addition, we use a variety of processes to create surfaces that resist fatigue, wear and corrosion, while reducing friction. Our in-house heat treat and vacuum carburization capabilities enable us to control required metallurgical characteristics to exacting specifications. All gears undergo nondestructive testing and inspection. In addition, if required, some of our gears will undergo isotropic superfinishing which also enhances gearbox wear resistance.
Our technicians inspect all gears throughout the manufacturing process and again at completion, maintaining a permanent record of all dimensions and process controls. Spiral bevel gears are compared to master gear data and adjustments are made to the machine settings to meet our customers' requirements. Tape transfers showing the approved contact pattern between the gears we manufacture and customers’ master gears are made, verified and kept.
Size Range: 50.80 mm to 914.40 mm OD (2 in. to 36 in. OD)
