In early 2008, Timken acquired the assets of Boring Specialties Inc., a leading provider of precision deep-hole oil and gas drilling and extraction products and services. The acquisition adds machining capabilities for drilling, skiving, trepanning and honing operations to our growing oil and gas portfolio. It also provides a one-stop steel source for machining, straightening and supply chain services.

In addition, we’re investing in a new small-bar mill in Canton, Ohio, to manufacture high-quality alloy steel bars down to one-inch in diameter. We’ve also added new induction heat-treat capabilities and expanded the outer diameter of round steel bars and steel tubing length offered to global energy customers. Our expanded line of steel bars and tubing are used in drill bits, drill collars, deepwater riser systems, wellheads and other heavy duty drilling and extraction equipment.

In addition to steel products, Timken also provides energy customers with bearings and related products and services such as engineered surfaces, reliability solutions and bearing repair.
