From Our Chairman and CEO

A MESSAGE
FROM OUR CHAIRMAN

Our company’s success is made possible by the dedication of our associates. When people turn to The Timken Company, they’re really turning to our worldwide team of talented individuals – people who have come to this company because they share a common set of values.

Those values include a commitment to ethics and integrity that grows from a fundamental belief that good citizenship is good business. It dates back to my great-great grandfather and continues through the good choices that we all make every day. So, whether we’re dealing with shareholders, customers, communities or each other, we have a shared expectation that we’ll always do the right thing.

We stand together, committed to these standards and that means having open discussion about tough business issues and challenging each other when necessary.

These Standards of Business Ethics serve as a guide for us all … for our board of directors, our suppliers and for everyone with whom we do business. They don’t explicitly cover every challenge an associate may encounter, but the basic principles of honesty, fairness, respect and responsibility do.

I’d simply ask this of every one of you: join me in Turning Ethics into Action. Understand the content of this set of standards, do the right thing in every situation, and feel both the right and the duty to speak up if you ever have concerns.

Thank you for your commitment.

W.J. “Tim” Timken, Jr.

OUR PRESIDENT AND CEO ON
TURNING ETHICS INTO ACTION

Customers trust us to live up to our good reputation. That trust goes beyond the quality and innovation of our products … it goes to the heart of who we are as people.

It’s the commitment we each have to Turning Ethics into Action that makes this company special. We live our values every day and, while the people of Timken represent many different cultures and backgrounds, the fundamental standards of business ethics transcend ethnicity.

In the most difficult moments, when decisions are not always clear, I use a test to reinforce my confidence in my course of action. I imagine my action as the headline of a newspaper article. Could I face my colleagues with my head held high?

Could I face my customers? My family? That’s a great measure of whether you’re doing the right thing.

Thank you for doing your part, and for Turning Ethics into Action at Timken.

James W. Griffith
President and Chief Executive Officer
