Alloy Steel & Steel Components

Timken produces some of the cleanest, highest-quality steels in the world for the most demanding applications. The majority of steel manufactured by Timken is custom melt steel to the customer's chemistry and manufacturing specifications. Timken also produces standard ASTM grades and quality level steel which is a higher performing and longer lasting steel than offered by our competitors. Where no steel exists that will do the job, Timken works with customers to develop new steels with the precise metallurgy and specific physical properties to do the job.

Associates in our steelmaking facilities have a relentless focus on increasing efficiency while improving quality. Through tight control of the steel chemistry and near-elimination of unwanted gases and non-metallic impurities, Timken provides clean, air-melt steel that is able to meet the toughest performance requirements.

In addition to producing steel bar and tubing, Timken also offer value-added processing. Timken converts the bars or tubes into rough or semi-finished parts that eliminate production operations for our customers and provide precision deep hole boring and finishing products and services.

Product List

Most Timken® steel is produced as solid round or square bars, but Timken is also one of the world's largest manufacturers of seamless alloy mechanical steel tubing. Learn more about all of the Timken steel products.

Applications

You won’t find Timken® steel in the blade of a bulldozer, but you will find it inside the engine, transmission and drive systems where material performance is essential to safe, long and reliable equipment operation. Much of Timken steel is used in long-running Timken® bearings, where clean steel helps extend bearing life. Learn more about the markets and applications where Timken high-performance steels are used.

Processes

Timken production equipment is massive and daily production is measured in thousands of tons. But creating clean, high-performing steels requires precise control, with additions to the molten steel measured in pounds. Learn more about each of the steps in the steelmaking process.

Services

Timken offers a wide range of technical services to help customers select and evaluate the right steel for their applications. In addition, complete Timken supply chain strategies offer efficient warehousing and delivery of steel and steel components to customer facilities.
