Our repair process can make a chock stronger than new with our mini- and full-rebuild services. We work on hundreds of chocks per year ranging in sizes up to 8 feet in diameter and 60,000 pounds. We have the experience to assess and correct key problem areas that occur in work roll and backup roll chocks. Our full-service chock rebuild and manufacturing capabilities allow us to rework critical surfaces and return your equipment to like-new condition.

Our chock maintenance program is a comprehensive offering that includes cleaning, inspection, bearing inspection, all repairs, greasing, sealing and tracking all with the goal reducing maintenance cost and improving performance.

Chock rebuilds undergo the following steps:

• Stripping and Cleaning – remove old chock, disassembly completely, and steam clean thoroughly.
• Preliminary Inspection – a complete visual, dimensional, mag particle and material properties evaluation is conducted to determine the scope of work. The customer is then furnished with a detailed inspection report and quote for approval.
• Preparation for Welding – under controlled heat conditions and depending on the chemistry of the base material, the chock/housing is welded above the surface. During this process, a combination of our CNC automated robotic welders and skilled hand welders begin bringing the chock/housing back into the desired specification.
• Thermal Stress Relief – precise time and temperature control in our annealing furnaces allows the steel to release any stresses that may have developed during the welding stage. Condition monitoring and recordings are logged throughout this cycle, and or furnaces are regularly calibrated and certified to ensure accurate operation for all work.
• Finish Machining – the rebuilt chock/housing is machined complete to drawing specifications. In-process inspection reports are filled out by operators as dimensions are machined. All welding particles and sharp edges are removed in preparation for painting and shipping.
• Preparation for Shipping – a final inspection, including dimensional, mag particle and hydrostatic tests are checked against specifications. Tapped holes are plugged and surfaces are painted and coated with cosmolene to protect the rebuilt unit against rust corrosion.
